Last Tuesday, 2 remarkable things happened in my training session with Buffin:
1) Buffin pointed to a barbell and told me to deadlift it. I do what I always do with Buffin, which is don't ask questions and lift whatever heavy thing he tells me to lift. When I finished he said, "Wow, that was really good."
"Huh," I asked. "What did I do?"
"That was 100 pounds."
I didn't believe him. I crouched down to read the side of the weight just to be sure. I really thought he had just handed me 60 pounds or something. So yeah, I deadlifted 100lbs and thought that was just the warm-up.
2) Buffin weighed me, and informed that since we've been working together, I've lost 10 pounds. He seemed very pleased with himself, which he should be, because he's a trainer and they pride themselves on these kinds of things. My response was more like this: ".......yay......." I mean, what am I supposed to do with that information? Put it on my resume? Is losing 10 pounds going to get me a romance novel contract or a spot on reality tv? No. Booooring. For real - losing something seems like a weird accomplishment. What am I supposed to do? High five myself and pick up a 100 pound barbell in one hand and a martini in the other? Actually, yes, I think that's exactly what I'll do.
