  • The theme of the day was double workout, double spinning. First, I went to aerial silks, learned some spinning moves, and worked on inversions. I was in the neighborhood of one of Sassletic's spin studios. Her 6pm class was cancelled, but Sassletic said she would give me a private spin class since I couldn't stay for the 7pm. So, we strapped on our spin shoes, swiped on the hot pink lipstick and got down to some awesomely sweaty business.

You guys! I knew Sassletic would be an amazing spin teacher, but it is incredible to see her in action. Julian Walker Studio (owned by the deliciously attractive and charming Julian Walker) is really nice, and each bike is pre-set with a towel and a bottle of water. How very VIP! More importantly, Sass' playlist is off the hook. It's like the world's best sleepover dance party, held on a bike and led by a yogic muppet. You don't know spinspiration until you've seen Sass sprinting while off the seat and doing Janet Jackson arm choreography to "Rhythm Nation." Uh-may-zing. I haven't taken a spin class in, oh, over a year???? Way before the era of Buffin. I was very proud to stay up and out of the saddle for as long as Sass instructed me to. I am way more beast since the days of Ride the Zone. (RIP, RTZ, RIP.)

The last slow climb was to "Eternal Flame," during which Sass instructed me to crank up the resistance and "think about what brought you here today." Of course I teared up and got very emotional, because I was thinking about my beautiful sweaty muffin friend and the ride we'd just shared. It's been a long and frustrating road (ha) that's led Sassletic to professional fitness instruction, and I was so proud to see her succeeding so wonderfully at something that uses all of her natural talents and best abilities to help and inspire other people. If you can make exercise so fun that someone forgets that they're exercising, you know you've got magic. I can't wait for her Crunch classes to start, and I'm so thrilled to be alive in the era of the Sassletic Empire. Sassletic.com - get on it, get with it, get your sass on.

p.s. Her spin class is its own reward, but Sassletic also hands out prizes if you're good.

Breaking news from Buffin: Yesterday I did 20 big girl floor pushups. No bench, no knees, real deal. I think Buffin almost cried from pride. I would have been more excited, but I was really tired. Then I had to do them twice more during our 3 circuits. Anthony and Buffin are pumped for my and Fraidy's Trainer vs. Trainer challenge (goals TBD). So during assisted pullups, Anthony would lurk near our machine and watch us. I think he was trying o be intimidating, but I also think he was just trying to pick up some training tips. OH SNAP! Challenge hasn't even started and I'm already trash talking.

Later that evening, I had a fancy pinup photo shoot with a friend from college who has a very successful pinup photography business (shamelessphoto.com). We were talking about aerial silks training, and tenacity in general. She told me about the 10,000 Hour Rule - something about if you put 10,000 hours into anything, no matter how bad you are at it, you'll be just as good as someone who started with natural aptitude. Something about everything evening out after 10,000 hours of diligence. Anyway, I did the math, and estimated I've put about 500 hours into aerial silks training in the past year and half. So if I keep going at this pace, by the time I'm 60, I'll have really gotten it down. Oy.

p.s. I am way behind in my catch up posts.

    • Fraidy L. I know the 10,000 hour rule. Malcolm Gladwell wrote about it in "Outliers". He explains that's how Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and other people got to where they did. 1 week ago
