  • meret a. Last night I finally signed up with McFit. Don’t be fooled though…that doesn’t mean I worked out. Instead, I went food shopping, made myself a steak salad, poured a glass of Malbec, and indulged in a piece of 90% cacao dark chocolate. I figured that signing up alone was a good step in the right direction. Oh, and the cherry on top of my day? Making plans to grab a beer with bad-ass Ariane’s niece who lives in Berlin! Yes, that’s right! I think that means I’m now officially starting to meet people and build an actual life here! Yay! Maybe it was that boost of positive energy that allowed me to get up by 6 this morning and head to the gym? Yup. I did a workout. A real one! Perhaps not the best ever, but it left my arms and legs spent and shaking, so I’d consider it a success. I ran 3.2 km (about 2 miles) and then did a 20 minute circuit with 4 kg dumb bells (8.8 lbs). I did the sequence below 3 times without breaks between rounds. Then I stretched for 10 minutes. (The workout included: 10 bicep curls, 10 hammer curls, 10 upright rows, 30 alternating lunges, 15 chest presses, 20 squats, 12 tricep dips.) You might have noticed that I did 12 dips per set instead of 20 that I normally do. Uhm…yea…it looks like my tri’s, long considered Trainer Mikes arch nemesis, have already forgotten what they’re able to do. Two weeks. That’s all it took. Damn, I thought we had something going on here…guess I need to invest some quality time again. Oh, by the way, I also started the 100 push-up plan yesterday. I decided to starting in week 2, so I did sets of 14, 14, 10, 10 & max reps (which ended up being 20).
    Mood: Awesome

  • Maggie H. If you workout at a hotel gym and do an insanely intense workout, I suppose it makes sense that the three people in there give me the death stare, sort of in the "YOU do know this is a hotel gym, right?"
Tonight I did both the upper body and cardio routines Ariane gave me to whip me into shape. That treadmill thing is no joke! I made it a little longer and it really was puddle of sweat inducing. Run, lunge, crossover walk, side shuffle, run, sprint, run, sprint, run, sprint, run, lunge and repeat for 35 minutes. Then I did the upper body routine. The funny part was that the evil plant back row wasn't the one that killed me, today it was the chest flys - probably because I am still sore from Monday! Afterwords I ran another mile to make it a solid 45 minutes of cardio....
All in all it was so much harder then I thought it would be but I also loved pushing myself that hard. I think it must be in my head but I swear I can already see a difference....

vonHottie v. Hahahahah I too would have stared at you for working that hard in a hotel gym. hahahahahahaha. Yay you're a beast! 5 hours ago

  • Jen M. I thought I'd have to take today off due to a root canal, but I decided to kick ass instead.
  • Joesgirl M. Somehow, I know that SW will enjoy this, and so I relay the following story: this morning, I decided to work from home before a meeting in midtown. After Mr. Joesgirl left for the day, I took my time getting dressed, walked the dogs and ran into a neighbor, passed by the super of the building no less than four times, and finally walked a few long blocks and onto the subway platform. While going down the steps to the platform, I thought to myself, hmmmm, something feels funny about this skirt I'm wearing. I wonder why. Then I walked on to the Q train, and stood there hanging on to a pole on a somewhat crowded car. I thought to myself again, gosh something feels REALLY funny about this skirt. And so, just as the train was peaking at the top of the Manhattan bridge, I swiped my hand along the back of my skirt to see if I felt anything funny on the fabric.

What I felt instead was, well, MY ASS.

It turned out the skirt I was wearing had a hole the size of a bowling ball where the seam used to be.

Accordingly, I would like to report that I unintentionally mooned thousands of New Yorkers all over Manhattan and Brooklyn today.

I am taking the fact that no one bothered to tell me as an indication that no one had a complaint about the view. :)

One four-block-sprint-through-Soho-with-tote-bag-held-over-ass-with-both-hands, the fine folks at Club Monaco rescued me by finding me a replacement skirt in under five minutes, and I was only one minute late to my meeting. Three hours later, I am finally a little less mortified. But only a little.
Mood: Somewhere between fiery red and hot pink with embarassment
Set Intention: New York, now that you've seen my ass, you might as well kiss it.
sandyliz R. That has SO happened to me, only in my version, my bag pulls my dress up to my waist, and i walk many many blocks mooning. I also take the "enjoy the view" approach. 1 day ago
vonHottie v. you know you're a real SW'er when you invite an ass smack. 1 day ago

  • Bethany M. Your bodies may be saying that they have done all the saluting they can do. Your mind may be getting weary, your salutations, sloppy. 14 more days, 14 more days to go. So much to be thankful for, the Sun, the Moon, Nature, family, friends, love, LIFE. The breath will guide you to your goal. Follow it. It leads the way.

Before you get saluting today, or after, try this meditation to ease your mind and restore your body. Works like a charm in all of my classes, leaving students and myself feeling alive and rejuvenated.

    Energy Healing Meditation

Lay flat on your back in savasana. Close your eyes and take 3 cleansing breaths. In through the nose. Out through the mouth. Deep breaths. Full breaths. LET GO.

Return to your normal pattern of breathing.

Begin to turn the attention to your body.

Beginning at the tips of your toes, envision a pure, crystal-like purple wave of light entering through your feet. Feel all the sensations at your toes, feel the coolness of the purple, the healing of the purple. Allow the purple light to travel through your ankles and legs, hips, belly, chest, shoulders, arms, hands, neck, head. Feel each body part as the light travels and waves its way through your body, filling up the spaces of all and in between. Notice how each body part feels. Each subtle sensation. End with the light filling up the space of your mind, between your ears, and see the cleansing light as it radiates from your whole body.

Relax. Let go. You are alive.

    Life is beautiful.
